Overview, eligibility and instructions

What is MEMSI?
MEMSI is a two-week long, fully immersive mini-accelerator for aspiring hardware system innovators from universities in Hong Kong and from MIT.  It will take place from June 3-18, 2017 in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.

MEMSI is designed for students who want to build up their skills in entrepreneurship, hardware making, and product development for connected devices with an Internet of Things (IoT) flavor.

MEMSI is powered by the MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node (http://hkinnovationnode.mit.edu), the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship (http://entrepreneurship.mit.edu), Project Manus (http://project-manus.mit.edu), MISTI-China (http://misti.mit.edu/mit-china) and the MIT Innovation Initiative (http://innovation.mit.edu).  See program website (http://memsi.mit.edu) for more details.

Who is eligible to apply?
· Currently enrolled students in degree-bearing undergraduate or graduate programs at MIT or any of the 8 publicly funded universities in Hong Kong may apply.
· See program website at http://memsi.mit.edu for details.

What does the application process involve?
The application process includes two parts:
· A 2-minute Youtube video where you tell us your name, major, university you are studying in, what you enjoy in your academic studies (especially around making and entrepreneurship), and why you are interested in joining the MEMSI program. YOU WILL NEED TO UPLOAD THIS VIDEO TO YOUTUBE BEFORE YOU START FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION. Please make sure the Youtube video is not listed as Private – you can list it as Unlisted if you would like to exclude it from search engines.
· The on-line application, which will take about 15 – 30 minutes to fill out (your mileage may vary).

We highly recommend that you save your responses in another file in case you run into technical difficulties completing the form.

If you like, you may download the full list of questions in the application form from the program website at http://memsi.mit.edu/applications

Will there be an interview process?
Yes. Selected applicants will be contacted via email to arrange an interview. The interview will last roughly 15 minutes. It is designed to ensure you have the right mind and skill set to join the program, as well as give you the chance to ask questions and get any further information you need regarding the program. We will endeavor to try and provide face-to-face interviews for all selected candidates both in MIT and Hong Kong, where possible.

When is the deadline?
For MIT students:
· Applications open at 8am Eastern Time on Monday, March 6, 2017
· Applications close at 8pm Eastern Time on Friday, March 24, 2017
· A select number of applicants will be invited to interview with us during the weeks of April 3 and 10, 2017
· Students will be notified of their acceptance status by April 12, 2017
· Accepted students must confirm their attendance by April 14, 2017

For Hong Kong students: Applications will open on March 27. Stay tuned.
